Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in 2023 Peter Obi, has disowned pictures circulating on social media that falsely depict him in meetings he never attended.
In a statement on Tuesday, Obi said two images—one purporting to show him with former U.S. President Donald Trump, and another suggesting a meeting with Lagos transport union leader MC Oluomo—were fabricated.
“Both pictures are fake and doctored, and the accompanying stories are entirely false,” Obi declared. “I have not met Mr. Trump recently, nor have I had any such meeting with MC Oluomo.”

He warned that the episode illustrates the growing threat of disinformation:
“These fabrications highlight the persistent dangers of fake news in our society. They are deliberately designed to confuse, misguide, and distract the public. Nigerians and the international community must remain vigilant, verify information before sharing, and resist the culture of propaganda that undermines truth and integrity.”
Obi added that, had any such meetings occurred, he would have disclosed them personally on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle. He stressed that his politics is not about “cheap publicity” but about addressing Nigeria’s real challenges: insecurity, the rule of law, education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation.
“A new Nigeria is possible,” he concluded, reaffirming his commitment to accountability and transparency.
