IGP Egbetokun Charges Border Patrol Commanders on Enhanced Security

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun has called on Border Patrol Commanders across Nigeria to strengthen their operations as the country’s first line of defense against external security threats.

Addressing the commanders during a conference at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, Egbetokun emphasized their critical role in safeguarding Nigeria’s sovereignty, preventing bloodshed, and protecting the nation’s identity.

He acknowledged the vast and challenging nature of Nigeria’s borders, including long maritime corridors linking the country to the Gulf of Guinea, and praised the Force Border Patrol Unit for its efforts in tackling evolving border crimes.

“The Nigeria Police Force cannot tackle 21st-century crimes with 20th-century tools,” Egbetokun said. “We must embrace technology—surveillance systems, drones, biometric scanners, and real-time data analysis—to stay ahead of criminal elements.”

The IGP highlighted intelligence-led policing, community trust, and collaboration with other security agencies as the foundation of effective border security. He reassured officers that their welfare remains a top priority under his leadership.

Egbetokun urged the commanders to remain proactive in preempting and preventing criminal activities at Nigeria’s borders, while assuring citizens of the Force’s commitment to national security and public safety.
