After more than 15 years of total blackout, 10 towns and villages in Buji Local Government Area of Jigawa State have been reconnected to the national grid, while eight other communities are being linked for the first time.

Chairman of Buji LGA, Arch. Najibullah Falalu Tukur, disclosed this in a telephone interview, noting that the re-electrification was part of his administration’s drive to revive critical infrastructure and spur socio-economic development.

“In fulfillment of our promise, work has commenced on the re-electrification of the Yayarin Tukur–Kafin Madaki power line, which was vandalised and abandoned for over 15 years,” he said. “We also approved the immediate reconnection of the Kwari–Nafara–Gantsa line, restoring power supply to 10 towns.”

The council boss added that contracts have been awarded to extend electricity to more communities. The beneficiaries include Gantsa, Jibari, Tijiyo, Ahoto, Yayarin Tukur, Kafin Madaki, and Abore.

Tukur said the projects reflect his administration’s commitment to rural electrification, infrastructure development, and improving the quality of life for residents. He stressed that access to electricity was vital for boosting local commerce, education, and health services.

He further pledged to deliver the projects in line with his campaign promises and the All Progressives Congress (APC) manifesto, aligning with Governor Umar Namadi’s 12-point agenda. “We remain committed to ensuring timely delivery of these projects for the lasting benefit of our people,” he assured.
