SDP Kaduna Dismisses El-Rufai Claims, Reaffirms Party Unity

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kaduna State has firmly rejected former Governor Nasiru Ahmad El-Rufai’s claim that the party’s structure in the state has “collapsed” into the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In a statement released by Adamu Idris, Kaduna State SDP Chairman, the party said El-Rufai’s assertion, made on 23 August 2025 at a political gathering, is “misleading” and does not reflect reality. According to the party, only a handful of El-Rufai’s loyalists—who had temporarily joined the SDP during his short-lived involvement—left alongside him.

“Nothing of the sort claimed by El-Rufai has happened,” the statement said. “The authentic SDP structures remain intact across the state and are stronger than ever.”

Idris described El-Rufai’s brief tenure in the party as a disruptive episode, welcoming his exit as a chance to restore peace and unity. “His departure removes the discord and disunity he brought with him. SDP can now move forward with renewed focus,” Idris said.

The party reaffirmed its commitment to positioning itself as a credible opposition force in Kaduna, emphasizing discipline, national outlook, and dedication to the interests of Nigerians. Idris also took a firm stand against what he described as “ego-driven, parochial, and anti-democratic agendas.”

Concluding the statement, SDP Kaduna assured members and the public that the party’s structures remain fully operational and ready to engage in meaningful politics. “A new chapter begins for SDP in Kaduna State—one marked by unity, focus, and service to the people,” the statement read.
