While many Nigerian youths feel trapped by unemployment and economic hardship, comedian Obinna Daniel Chibueze-Madu ESQ., popularly known as MC Medica, sees creativity as the escape route.
The law graduate from the University of Benin, who was called to the Bar in 2016, chose comedy over legal practice, not as a defeat, but as a pathway to survival and impact.
“Law gave me knowledge, but comedy gave me life,” he said through his media manager, Fidel Castro. “In today’s Nigeria, your skill is what keeps the lights on.”

For Medica, comedy is more than entertainment; it is both livelihood and social tool. Inspired in 2008 by campus performances of MC Casino, he committed himself to the craft, eventually winning the Amstel Malta Comedy Challenge in 2012, performing at Night of a Thousand Laughs, and rubbing shoulders with Basketmouth, Timaya, and other stars.

Even while pursuing law, Medica never abandoned the stage. His gospel-themed Feast of Laughter events in 2013 and 2014 gave him a platform before his Law School year. After a brief pause, he re-emerged stronger in 2021 with social media skits, and by 2022, launched his annual MEDICA LIVE show every Christmas — hosting giants like Gandoki, Maleke, and Mc Laughdoctor.
The Imo-born entertainer now urges Nigerian youths to think beyond certificates and harness creative skills. “Your degree might open doors, but your talent sustains you,” he said.
While he acknowledges that many professionals are leaving their trained careers due to harsh realities, Medica insists this moment is also an opportunity for a creative revolution — if government provides the right support.
“There’s so much talent in this country,” he stressed. “But without the right structure, many gifted youths may never get the chance to shine.”
