Member representing Auyo/Hadejia/Kafin Hausa Federal Constituency of Jigawa State, Hon. Usman Ibrahim Kamfani, has denied claims that he accused colleagues in the House of Representatives of taking bribes before passing bills.

In a statement issued by his media aide, Comrade Ahmed Ilallah Hadejia, the lawmaker said his remarks in a viral Hausa-language video were misinterpreted and twisted by political opponents.

According to Ilallah, Hon. Kamfani was only referring to consultancy costs associated with bill drafting, which could range from ₦2 million for contractual bills to ₦1 million for petition-related bills.

“The member never alleged that his colleagues collect bribes. What he explained was the cost a lawmaker may incur when hiring a consultant to draft a bill,” Ilallah clarified.

He described the media reports as misleading, stressing that no money was ever given or received as bribe by the lawmaker or his colleagues.

“The way the remarks were twisted did not only slandered the image of Hon. Usman Kamfani but also embarrassed his constituents,” Ilallah said, urging the public to dismiss the misinterpretation.

He added that such false reports could damage the reputation of the National Assembly, Nigerian democracy, and the constituency the lawmaker represents.
