Fayemi Slams Defection Rumours, Says He’s Fully Backing APC in Ekiti

Former Ekiti State governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has dismissed reports linking him to a new African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition, insisting he remains firmly committed to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement on Sunday, Ahmad Sajoh, Head of the Fayemi Media Office, described the claim—allegedly tied to ex-Rivers governor Rotimi Amaechi—as baseless and unsupported by any credible evidence. Sajoh said no verified video or reputable report confirmed Amaechi ever made such remarks, adding that it was possible he was misquoted.

He stressed that Fayemi has consistently demonstrated loyalty to the APC, publicly endorsed Governor Biodun Oyebanji for re-election, and remains active in party leadership at the state level. While the former governor engages in national dialogue across political and social divides, Sajoh said these do not signal any plan to defect.

“If Dr Fayemi ever decides to leave the APC, he will announce it himself,” Sajoh stated, noting that reduced public appearances stem from Fayemi’s academic role as a visiting professor at King’s College London and his work with the Amandla Institute.

Sajoh concluded that Fayemi is “a principal member of the APC” and fully committed to the party’s victory in the next Ekiti gubernatorial election.
