By Olubunmi Omoogun

The determination to help raise the standard of life and make life more meaningful for his people has continued to lead him to participate actively in quality legislation of laws and his unrelenting efforts to work for the common good of his people.

Shaping the future of his people, speaking and advocating for sustainable development, the Chief Whip of the 10th Nigerian Senate, Sen. Tahir Monguno, who has avowed unshakeable self-devotion to his people’s cause, has shown firm commitment to instil good governance in his beloved Senatorial District, Borno North in Borno State, North East of Nigeria.

Because of his undying love for his people, Sen. Mohammed Tahir Monguno has been able to impact positively on the populace, focusing on various thematic areas, namely education, youth/women welfare, healthcare, infrastructural amenities and so on. Just like theme areas as proposed by Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Sen. Monguno, believing that if you want to really focus on the wellbeing of your people, you should set your eyes closer to tackling poverty, enhanced livelihoods, health, child friendly environment, water sufficiency, clean and green environment, self-sufficient infrastructure, socially just and socially secured environment, and good governance.

He has continued to shape his working philosophy and influence around these thematic areas. His achievements and legislative interventions over the years as a former Commissioner in the state, a revered House of Representatives member, and now as a well-respected principal officer of the 10th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

As the Chief Whip of the 10th Senate, his personality underscores the importance of unity among his colleagues and collective action for achieving a brighter future not only for his people in Borno North Senatorial District but for Nigerians as a whole.

As a lover of education, and an exceptional politician, he is making great, never forgotten impacts as he continues to prioritize free education, while harnessing and aggregating available resources for the development of his Senatorial District.

Doing this with clinical precision, he knew that education can only be the long-lasting gift you can give to someone.
The former President of South Africa, Nelson Mandela even noted the importance of education, when he said that ‘education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world’.
This quote struck a cord with the Senator as he puts this and other social welfare in front burner as his priorities.

Carefully walking in this progressive path as well as understanding that education is the future of Africa, Sen. Tahir Monguno continues to prioritize education by ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all.

In his strong efforts to advance education and because he is a living testament to what education can unlock, he quickly put in place a top-notch delivery mechanism, which is his Tahir Monguno Scholarship Foundation to bring tangible improvement in the lives of the people as well as to unlock their full potentials.

The outstanding and impactful gesture that deserves huge appreciation was the presentation of scholarship awards to cater to the tuition fees until graduation of over 100 university students in Borno North. He did not stop there, in line with Borno State Governor, His Excellency, Prof. Babagana Zulum’s Recovery Agenda of removing barriers to learning for marginalised communities and transform education system from the ground up, Sen. Monguno constructed several public schools fitted with modern learning tools and infrastructure to meet global standard, while also upholding the vision to empower vulnerable youths and women through capacity building entrepreneurship skills development programmes that cut across all the local government areas that make up Borno North Senatorial District.

Demonstrating his experience as an inspirational leader, he also believes in aligning his exceptional work ethics with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda by re-emphazing social welfare for all citizens will cement his long-standing good name, image, and political legacy in Borno North in the hearts of many.

While reaffirming his commitment to building a more prosperous Borno North, he facilitated several laudable projects to transform the educational sector, including:

Construction and furnishing of a 1,000-seater capacity lecture hall at the Borno State University (BOSU)

Construction and furnishing of the Digital Literacy Centre at Ramat Polytechnic

Rehabilitation of the federal college of fisheries development, Baga

Construction of link road and drainage at Federal Polytechnic, Monguno

Construction of parameter fencing of Federal Polytechnic, Monguno.

Others are the completion and furnishing of the ICT centre at the Federal Polytechnic, Monguno

Reconstruction of the Dikwa-Marte road; construction of a 500 cubic steel elevated tank at the Federal Polytechnic, Monguno

Construction of the Monguno town hall; and completion and furnishing of the skills acquisition centre at Gajiram.

Built a 128-capacity student hostel at the Federal Polytechnic Monguno, and facilitated the employment of 18 Constituents into Federal Parastatals.

Just like the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) theme of ‘Stronger Together, Brighter Future’. Sen. Mohammed Tahir Monguno will continue to show a strong commitment to excellence for the greater good of all his people.________________________________________
