Nigeria’s fourth-largest telecom operator has turned a new page in its history, officially rebranding from 9mobile to T2 in a bold bid to reclaim market strength.
The unveiling took place at a high-profile event tagged “Tech Meets Tenacity” at Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos, where Chief Executive Officer Obafemi Banigbe announced the change as more than just a name swap.
“This change is necessary for us to give our best. We are not playing catch-up, but to lead in the industry,” Banigbe declared.
The rebrand comes with a vibrant shift from the company’s trademark green to an energetic orange, symbolising renewal and ambition.
The ceremony drew key industry stakeholders, including the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, and featured entertainment from Darey Art Alade alongside top musical performances.
Once launched as Etisalat Nigeria, the company served over 22 million subscribers before investor exits triggered financial troubles, network decline, and subscriber losses—shrinking to just 3.2 million active users by January 2025.
To regain relevance, T2 recently signed a national roaming agreement with MTN Nigeria, a move expected to boost network coverage and service quality for its customers.
This transformation signals a broader turnaround strategy as T2 seeks to stabilise operations, win back users, and compete aggressively in Nigeria’s fast-evolving telecom market.
