The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has petitioned the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, and the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to prosecute popular Fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, known as K1 De Ultimate, for what it described as “unruly and dangerous conduct” at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
In a strongly worded statement on Thursday, NCAA spokesman Michael Achimugu confirmed that the music icon’s actions—physically blocking a taxiing aircraft operated by ValueJet—violated multiple provisions of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations (Nig. CARs) 2023.
The incident, captured in viral videos circulating on social media, showed Ayinde on the tarmac obstructing the aircraft’s movement after being denied boarding. The NCAA has since imposed a six-month travel ban on him, warning all local and international airlines that flying the singer could lead to the withdrawal of their licenses.
Aviation Minister, Festus Keyamo, also weighed in, condemning Ayinde’s conduct as “reprehensible” and likening it to a “hostage situation.”
“This is totally unacceptable behaviour,” Keyamo said in a statement on X. “Whether he was holding water or alcohol is irrelevant. What matters is that he deliberately blocked an aircraft from taxiing to the runway. That act alone is a grave security breach.”
According to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the altercation began when Ayinde was stopped from boarding a Lagos-bound flight for carrying a flask suspected to contain alcohol. In the process, he allegedly spilled the contents on an aviation staffer in a fit of rage.
FAAN confirmed that the chaos escalated when the musician moved onto the tarmac, positioning himself in the path of a moving aircraft—prompting alarm and confusion.
In response, the NCAA suspended the two ValueJet pilots involved for failing to follow safety protocols during the incident. However, Keyamo emphasized that accountability must cut both ways.
“I have directed that Kwam 1 be placed on a no-fly list pending a full investigation. Any airline that carries him will face serious consequences,” the minister warned.
Kwam 1 is a cultural icon in Nigeria’s southwest and a close ally of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He performed at President Bola Tinubu’s inauguration in 2023 and has often featured at party functions. But his status, the authorities insist, offers no protection from the law.
The NCAA, in its petition, called for a full criminal investigation and prosecution under aviation safety laws, saying that no individual—regardless of fame or political connection—should be above the law.
