Bayero University, Kano is deeply saddened to announce the untimely death of one of its bright young students, Mr. Ameh Lawrence Ihotu, a 100-level student in the Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Computing.
Lawrence, who had only recently begun his academic journey with hope and determination, tragically passed away on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, after reportedly collapsing unexpectedly. He was rushed to the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Dala, for emergency care but was pronounced dead shortly after.
Director of Public Affairs, Lamara Garba, in a statement on behalf of the registrar on Thursday indicated that the news was formally conveyed to the University by his elder brother, Mr. Ameh Ibeh Edeh, himself a student of Biochemistry in the same institution.
“The pain of losing a sibling and fellow student has shaken not just his department but the entire university community.
“This loss is not just personal to the family,” the University Management noted, “it is a collective heartbreak for us all. Lawrence was a vibrant, promising student with a future full of potential.”
In solidarity with the grieving family, the University has made contact and is assisting in arrangements to transport the late student’s remains to Orokam, Benue State, where he will be laid to rest.
This tragic incident is a reminder of the fragility of life and reinforces the University’s ongoing commitment to student welfare, emergency health response, and emotional support systems on campus.
