FRCN Appoints Victorson Agbenson as General Manager of Bronze FM Benin

In a strategic move to reposition its broadcast stations nationwide, the Director General of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Dr. Mohammed Bulama, has approved the appointment of Comrade Victorson Agbenson as General Manager of Bronze FM, Benin City, Edo State.
According to a letter signed by the Head of Secretary and Legal Services, Olubukola Shonibare, on behalf of the DG, the appointment takes effect from August 1, 2025, and is aimed at promoting editorial excellence, expanding audience reach, and boosting revenue through innovative programming and professional station management.
Comrade Agbenson, a seasoned broadcaster and administrator, brings to the role a wealth of experience in journalism, union leadership, and organizational transformation. Until his appointment, he was Assistant Director (News) and Head of Planning at Radio Nigeria, where he also served as the political editor.

As President of the FRCN Headquarters Cooperative Society Ltd., Agbenson spearheaded one of its most ambitious initiatives—a landmark 27-hectare housing project at Idu, in the heart of the FCT. Under his leadership, the society paid the highest severance package in its history and secured building plan approval for the project.

Between 2010 and 2016, he served as Chairman of the FRCN in-house unions, and from 2016 was elected Chairman of the PDP Press Corps, covering the People’s Democratic Party beat with distinction.
A prolific writer, Agbenson is the author of Moment of Truth: The Compelling Story of Pastor Tunde Bakare, published by Safari Books Ltd. in 2014. His journalism journey includes a stint with the Nigerian Observer in Benin (2002–2003), with coverage spanning key national beats such as the House of Representatives, Works, and Energy.
From 2006 to 2010, he served as Personal Assistant to the DG of FRCN, working under three successive CEOs—Mr. Kevin Ejiofor, Mr. Ben Egbuna, and Mrs. Maria Odeh. He also contributed to high-level national assignments, including: Secretary, FCT Operation 500 Roads Monitoring Committee (2005–2007), Member, National Operation 500 Roads Monitoring Committee (2005–2007), Member, FEC Minutes Editing Team under Prof. Dora Akunyili (2010–2012),Chairman, NUJ, FRCN HQ (2010–2016) and Chairman, FRCN In-House Unions (2012–2017)
Agbenson has participated in numerous professional development programs globally, including: International Visitors Leadership Programme (IVLP), USA, Senior Editors Seminar, Beijing, China (2012), AMISOM Anti-Terrorism Coverage, Somalia (2016) and Anti-Boko Haram Operations Coverage, North East Nigeria (2015) and Speech Writing Workshop, ASCON, Badagry (2006) and Labour Courses, Michael Imoudu Institute, Ilorin
He is a regular guest lecturer in Mass Communication departments across Nigeria, bridging the gap between classrooms and newsrooms.
