The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Institute for Sports (NIS), H.E. Comrade Philip Shaibu, has congratulated the Super Falcons for their heroic triumph over Morocco in the final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Describing the win as “Mission X accomplished,” Shaibu praised the team’s determination, skill, and fighting spirit, which saw them come from behind to defeat the host nation 3–2 in a breathtaking showdown at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.

A passionate supporter of Nigerian sports, Shaibu—who fulfilled his pledge to travel to Morocco and support the team from the stands—commended the players for their resilience and courage on the pitch.
His Special Adviser on Media, Ben Ogbemudia in a statement quoted him to have also lauded the technical crew, the Nigeria Football Federation, and the National Sports Commission under the leadership of Mallam Shehu Dikko for their strategic planning and unrelenting support, which contributed to the Falcons’ success.

“This victory is not just about winning a trophy; it’s about inspiring a generation,” said Shaibu, a former player with Bendel Insurance FC. “Our girls have made the nation proud again.”

With this win, Nigeria lifts its 10th WAFCON title—solidifying the Super Falcons’ legacy as the most decorated team in African women’s football history.
