AFAN Rallies Stakeholders to Reform Agricultural Policies, Drive Food Security

***Mudi calls for unity after Court of Appeal victory, as AFAN sets new direction for sector

President of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Dr. Farouk Mudi, has called on farmers, commodity groups, and agricultural stakeholders to close ranks and craft pragmatic policies to reposition Nigeria’s agriculture sector.

Speaking during the AFAN National Expanded Executive Council Meeting in Abuja on Tuesday, Mudi said the time had come for a united front and coordinated policy reforms to boost productivity, enhance food security, and unlock economic opportunities across the country.

He described the recent Court of Appeal judgment, which affirmed his leadership, as a fresh opportunity to reset AFAN’s agenda and bring lasting unity to the farming community.

“Only unity and proper synergy with all commodity associations can give us a fresh start,” Mudi declared. “We must discard outdated policies that have failed and embrace innovative solutions that truly serve farmers.”

Mudi warned that persistent disunity among commodity groups has weakened the sector’s influence and limited access to critical support such as credit facilities and government interventions.

“Nigeria has the potential to feed itself and even export food, but internal wrangling has denied our farmers both national and global support,” he added. “No one will fix it for us. We must take control of our future—together.”

AFAN’s Deputy National President I, Mr. John Olateru, described the meeting as a critical turning point for agriculture in Nigeria, affirming that AFAN was returning to its founding vision of unity and inclusiveness.

“This is a new dawn for Nigerian farmers,” Olateru said. “We are reuniting all agricultural stakeholders under one umbrella, in line with global best practices.”

Dr. Somadina Johnson-Anene, Chairman of the Abuja Trade Centre, Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry, underscored the urgency of food security, urging farmers to align with AFAN’s renewed direction.

“No one, no matter how powerful, can do without food,” he said. “I encourage every farmer to key into this new vision—it’s the path to shared prosperity.”

The AFAN meeting comes on the heels of a Court of Appeal ruling which reaffirmed the legitimacy of the Mudi-led AFAN leadership.
