In a landmark appointment that cements his legacy as a respected global statesman, former President of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, has been named the United Nations Global Crisis Envoy.
This high-profile role, jointly endorsed by the United States, France, the United Kingdom, China, Russia, and the United Nations, positions Dr. Jonathan at the forefront of international diplomacy and conflict resolution.

The appointment mirrors the esteemed position once held by former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, who served as the Middle East envoy on behalf of the UN, EU, US, and Russia.

However, Dr. Jonathan’s designation marks a historic milestone — he becomes the first African former Head of State to assume such a role, highlighting the growing recognition of Africa’s voice and leadership on the global stage.

Dr. Jonathan’s journey is a compelling narrative of service, humility, and leadership. From academic lecturer to Commissioner, Deputy Governor to Governor, Vice President to Acting President, and eventually the President of Africa’s largest democracy, his steady rise through public service has inspired millions.

This new chapter adds yet another layer to his remarkable legacy — as a peacemaker and global diplomat.

His Excellency’s commitment to democracy, peacebuilding, and inclusive dialogue has earned him international acclaim, with past mediation efforts in Mali, The Gambia, and South Sudan further solidifying his credentials.
