The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Nasarawa State Chapter, has entered a new era of leadership following the inauguration of a 14-member Caretaker Committee by the Council’s national leadership.
The swearing-in ceremony, which took place at the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Conference Hall in Lafia, drew a crowd of youth leaders, political figures, and government representatives, all united in the shared vision of advancing youth development in the state.
The newly inaugurated committee, described as a blend of competence, diversity, and grassroots representation, is tasked with revitalizing the NYCN’s presence in Nasarawa, amplifying youth voices, and championing progressive policies that impact young people directly.
Among the dignitaries in attendance was the State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Dr. Aliyu Bello, whose presence signaled the ruling party’s endorsement of youth inclusion and empowerment.
Delivering the keynote address, NYCN National Secretary, Barr. Suleiman Abubakar Abutu, urged the new committee to prioritize unity, innovation, and strategic advocacy, stressing that youth must play a central role in shaping the future of governance and community engagement.
“This is a call to service. You are not just caretakers—you are changemakers. Lead with integrity, listen to the people, and drive solutions that matter to the youth of Nasarawa State,” he said.
The new caretaker committee members, which will serve in the interim until elections are held, includes: Comr. Solomon Damina John – Chairman, Comr. Abubakar Usman Yamani – Secretary, Comr. Muhammad Lawal Nata’ala – Financial Secretary, Comr. Faruk Umar Tunga – Legal Adviser, Comr. Alkhamis Ladan – Organizing Secretary, Comr. Jennifer Ganah – Treasurer, Comr. Osome Osoweshi Isa – Public Relations Officer, comr. Yakubu Ibrahim Abimiku – Member, Comr. Muhammad Auwal Shuaibu – Member and Comr. Usman Umar Magaji – Member
Others are Comr. Umar Usman Tiliba – Member, Comr. Gamaliel Zekpo – Member, Comr. Isa Rilwanu – Member and Mr. Jonathan Gabu – Ministry Representative
In his acceptance speech, newly appointed Chairman, Comr. Solomon Damina John, pledged full support for Governor Abdullahi A. Sule’s open-door and performance-driven administration, vowing to pursue youth-centered initiatives in entrepreneurship, policy inclusion, and skills development.
“This is not just an inauguration; it is the beginning of a movement,” he declared. “We will ensure that every young person in Nasarawa has both a voice and a future.”
The event concluded with strong expressions of solidarity and high expectations. Stakeholders voiced optimism that the new leadership will serve as a bridge between the youth and government, unlocking opportunities and driving sustainable development across the state.
