In a strong display of unity and resolve, the Obidient Movement has shut down rumours of a rift between its political torchbearer, Peter Obi, and the Acting National Chairman of the Labour Party, Senator Nenadi Usman, calling the claims “deliberate misinformation crafted to destabilize the party.”
Addressing the media in Abuja on Tuesday, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, National Coordinator of the movement, firmly dismissed recent speculation sparked by Obi’s attendance at the gubernatorial campaign flag-off of Dr. George Moghalu in Anambra State — a move some wrongly interpreted as an act of rebellion or factional support.
“There is absolutely no friction. Peter Obi remains steadfast in his loyalty to the Labour Party under Senator Nenadi Usman’s leadership. He is not only committed — he is consistent. That’s the difference between him and the political old guard,” Dr. Tanko said.
He emphasized that Obi’s appearance at Moghalu’s campaign was in line with his public position: to support all candidates who genuinely secured the party’s ticket — a position both Senator Usman and other party leaders are fully aligned with.
“The Labour Party today is built on integrity, internal democracy, and discipline — and Peter Obi embodies all three. These attacks are nothing more than propaganda from opposition actors who fear what we represent: structure, vision, and a movement powered by the people.”
Dr. Tanko further described the controversy as a “manufactured distraction” designed to sow doubt and confusion as the party gains momentum ahead of future electoral contests.
“We know the playbook — divide and discredit. But this is not the Labour Party of the past. This is a new era of principled politics,” he said.
Reaffirming the unity between Obi and Senator Usman, he declared that there is no vacuum in leadership and no conflict in vision. Instead, he urged members of the public to stay focused on the larger mission of national transformation.
“The goal has not changed. We are building a movement, not a moment — a future-focused Labour Party that prioritizes the needs of Nigerians. A new Nigeria is not just possible — it is underway.”
The statement comes just weeks after the Supreme Court affirmed Senator Nenadi Usman as the legitimate Acting National Chairman of the Labour Party, solidifying her position at the helm of the party’s structure.
For the Obidient Movement, the message is clear: there is no division at the top — only direction.
