Sen. Tahir Mongono: Taking Representation to Unprecedented Height

Olubunmi Omoogun chronicles the legislative and constituency interventions of the Chief Whip of the 10th Senate, Senator Barr. Mohammed Tahir Monguno.

The United Nations’ (UN’s) agency, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) measures Human Development Index by monitoring the progress made in education.

Education, which stands out among the indices to measure development, was one of the focal areas of the Senator representing Borno North Senatorial District in the National Assembly and current Chief Whip of the Nigerian Senate, Barr. Tahir Monguno in the Red Chamber is adding to global development in terms of per capita.

Knowing that the growth of education is measured primarily through Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4), which focuses on ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all, Senator Monguno, a first time Senator rested on the words of Byron Pulsifer, “To make any kind of change, one has to have the will and determination to do it”.

The Senator has continued to place premium on education and believes that all hands must be on deck and no stone must be left unturned in helping the youths to acquire quality education.

Setting a standard, Senator Monguno right from the get-go, instituted the Tahir Monguno Scholarship Foundation awards to cater for the tuition fees of brilliant but economically disadvantaged students of Borno North descent in public tertiary institutions in Nigeria. Under his Foundation, over 100 University of Maiduguri and Borno State Students were offered fully funded scholarships until graduation.

A man of method, structure, and exemplary discipline and leader of unimpeachable personality who knows the issues that affect his people in his Senatorial District. This makes him drive the welfare of his people with so much passion, reaching out to his people on a regular basis.

The Chief Whip of the 10th Senate, Sen. Tahir Monguno has taken representation to unprecedented heights with his unwavering commitment to public good, launched the distribution of an astonishing 13 GX Lexus Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) to enhance transportation on the difficult Sahara terrain, 50 mini pick-up vans, 50 tricycles (Keke Napep) as well as 100 pick-up vans, 150 Jeeps/Golf cars and hundreds of Keke Napep as empowerment to boost economic activities of the region. These remarkable accomplishments stand as a testament to his exceptional dedication to his legislative prowess as a selfless and distinguished gentleman.

His interventions in other areas of governance have also been hugely applauded by his Constituents and interestingly enough, by his colleagues at the 10th Nigerian Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Over the past two years, these selfless initiatives have yielded positive results as hope keeps rising for his people in the Constituency as more people will continue to benefit from his large heart.

What makes his achievements even more remarkable is the disbursement of empowerment funds to vulnerable households worth five hundred million to his constituency,

This represents one of the largest financial offerings ever extended to people in constituencies in Nigeria
The scale of his accomplishments has garnered national attention that aligns perfectly with the Governor of Borno, Prof. Babagana Zulum’s Recovery Project agenda.
