Rano Local Government Begins Distribution of 1,800 Bags of Subsidized Fertilizer to Farmers

The Rano Local Government Council has commenced the distribution of 1,800 bags of subsidized fertilizer to farmers, in a bold move to boost agricultural output and support rural livelihoods.

The official flag-off ceremony took place at the Rano Local Government Secretariat and was led by the Executive Chairman, who reiterated the council’s strong commitment to agricultural development and food security.

Zonal Information Officer, Rabiu Khalil Kura in a statement indicated that each bag of fertilizer is being sold at a discounted price of ₦20,000, making it more accessible to farmers who are preparing for the peak of the rainy season. The initiative is expected to ease the burden of high input costs and enable farmers to expand their cultivation.

The Head of the Agriculture and Natural Resources Department, Malam Hassan Abdullahi, stated that the program is part of ongoing efforts to empower local farmers and ensure a productive farming season.

Also speaking at the event, the Director of Personnel Management, Alhaji Ado Danazumi, praised Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for championing agricultural development and prioritizing the needs of the grassroots.

“This effort reflects a government that listens and acts. Agriculture is the heart of our local economy, and this support will go a long way in uplifting our farmers,” he said.

Danazumi assured that the distribution process would be conducted with transparency and fairness, ensuring that genuine farmers in all wards benefit from the scheme.

One of the beneficiaries, Alhaji Yunusa Muhammad Rano, thanked the council for the timely intervention, noting that it would significantly boost food production.

“We’ve received subsidized fertilizer three times now, and it’s made a real difference. With this support, we can cultivate more land and expect better harvests. We are grateful to the Chairman, the Governor, and the entire council,” he said.

The fertilizer disbursement aligns with the Kano State Government’s broader agenda to improve rural agriculture, fight poverty, and strengthen food systems in the state.
