Niger Speaker Condemns Killing of Soldiers, Says Constituency Under Siege

Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abdulmalik Sarkindaji, has strongly condemned the killing of Nigerian soldiers in the latest attack by armed bandits in Kwanan Duse and Gulbin Boka communities of Mariga Local Government Area.

In a statement personally signed and released on Wednesday in Minna, Sarkindaji described the attack as “barbaric, wicked, and inhuman,” noting that the soldiers had long provided security for the local government and its farming communities.

“This is a catastrophe not only for the military but also for the people of my constituency and the entire state,” he said. “My entire constituency is under siege.”

The Speaker lamented that the attacks on the two military camps in the area were a calculated attempt to weaken security presence and give criminal elements free rein to continue kidnapping, raping, killing, and cattle rustling.

“These heartless elements come from neighbouring states to unleash terror. Their goal is to dislodge security forces and overrun peaceful communities,” he added.

While expressing sympathy to the Nigerian military over the loss, Sarkindaji urged them not to relent in their efforts, and called on the government to continue providing full support to security agencies.

He also charged the military to ensure that the perpetrators are tracked down and brought to justice.

“This is a serious challenge, but we must not let them win,” he stressed.
