Taraba APC Chieftain Accuses Buni of Bias Against Christian Members Over Sunday Meeting

A prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Taraba State, Mr. Daniel Musa, has accused the North-East Zonal Coordinator of the party and Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, of showing disregard for the Christian members of the party by scheduling a critical zonal meeting during Sunday worship hours.

Musa, speaking to journalists in Jalingo on Friday, condemned the decision to hold the APC North-East consultative forum at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, 15th June 2025, saying it sends a troubling message of exclusion and bias.

“Fixing an important party meeting for a time when most Christians are in church is not just insensitive—it reflects a deeper disregard for the Christian community within the APC,” Musa said. “This is not just poor timing. It’s a pattern that feeds the growing concern that Christians in the party are being sidelined.”

He stressed that such decisions risk deepening religious divides within the party, especially in a region like the North-East where inclusivity is key to political stability and trust.

“The party leadership would never schedule a major meeting for Friday during Muslim prayers. Why then should it be acceptable to clash with Christian worship time? It shows selective sensitivity and promotes the perception that the APC is indifferent to Christian concerns,” he stated.

Musa warned that continued actions like this would only reinforce the public perception of the APC as a party that is predominantly Muslim and less accommodating of Christians.

“The APC is already battling an image crisis in this regard. By scheduling events that exclude Christians, the party is doing real damage to its credibility. We cannot build a strong, united party by marginalizing one section of our membership.”

He called on Governor Buni to urgently reconsider the date and time of the meeting and reschedule it to a more neutral period that respects the religious practices of all members.

“Rescheduling the meeting is not just a matter of convenience—it’s about fairness, inclusion, and the future of our party. We must lead by example and show that all members, regardless of faith, matter in the APC,” he concluded.
