The Kano State Government has extended relief support to 500 victims affected by a recent windstorm in Sumaila Local Government Area, which resulted in the loss of three lives and the destruction of over 300 homes.
Information Officer, Sumaila LGA, Jazuli Nuhu Idris, in a statement indicated that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, gave the approval for the intervention.
According to the statement essential materials such as roofing sheets, bags of cement, food items, clothing, maize, and cash support were distributed all aimed at helping victims rebuild and recover from the disaster.

During the distribution exercise, the Chairman of Sumaila LGA, Alhaji Faruk Abdu Sumaila, reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to responding swiftly to emergencies and supporting vulnerable communities.

He also announced a special cash donation of ₦500,000 to each of the three bereaved families.

The Secretary of the Local Government, Alhaji Surajo Idris Kanawa, emphasized that while the relief cannot undo the damage, it offers crucial support to those in distress.
In the same vein, the Head of the Community and Social Welfare Department, Ibrahim Bala, assured that the process was conducted transparently and free of favoritism.

Representing the traditional institution, Alhaji Isah Magayaki, who stood in for the District Head, commended the state government and local authorities for the prompt and impactful intervention.

One of the beneficiaries, Abdurrahman Yunusa Waziri Sitti, speaking on behalf of the victims, expressed deep appreciation to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and the Sumaila LGA leadership for their compassion and timely assistance.

This intervention once again highlighted the Kano State Government’s dedication to the safety, welfare, and dignity of its people in times of disaster.
