Following the Nigerian Meteorological Agency’s (NiMet) prediction of potential flooding in 30 states—including Jigawa—the National Orientation Agency (NOA) has launched a statewide public enlightenment campaign to sensitize residents in flood-prone communities.
This was contained in a statement issued in Dutse by the Head of Media and Communication for NOA in Jigawa, Miss Sarah Ogodo. She disclosed that the campaign was part of the agency’s visit to the newly appointed Executive Secretary of the Jigawa State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Alhaji Hannafi Yakubu.
“In a bold move to strengthen partnerships for more effective emergency response, the Jigawa State Directorate of NOA paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Secretary of SEMA at his office in Dutse,” the statement said.
During the visit, the NOA State Director, Alhaji Ahmad Ibrahim, presented a report detailing the agency’s community engagements and sensitization efforts aimed at mitigating the impact of flooding in vulnerable areas.
Miss Ogodo added that, “As a proactive step to reduce the effects of flooding, we have visited and sensitized residents in five flood-prone communities across five Local Government Areas in Jigawa State.”
She also highlighted the agency’s media outreach efforts, which include radio discussions focused on educating the public about flood prevention and addressing human-induced causes of flooding.
Alhaji Ibrahim stressed the need for strategic planning and coordination among stakeholders, emphasizing that a unified approach is essential for effective disaster risk reduction.
In his response, SEMA Executive Secretary Alhaji Hannafi Fagam expressed appreciation to the NOA team for their visit and for their ongoing efforts to safeguard lives and property. He assured them of SEMA’s continued support and partnership, stating that the agency remains open to all positive collabortions aimed at delivering quality service to the people of Jigawa.
