In a bold move to reposition secondary education in Jigawa State, Governor Malam Umar Namadi has established a new State Senior Secondary Education Board (SSEB) and appointed renowned academic Dr. Abubakar Sabo Yusha’u as its pioneer Executive Chairman.

Dr. Yusha’u, an accomplished scholar of Islamic Studies and Education who is currently awaiting promotion to full professorship at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, brings a robust blend of academic and field experience to the new role.

His appointment, alongside that of other key board members, was announced by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Malam Bala Ibrahim, via a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer in his office, Mr. Ismaila Ibrahim Dutse.

According to the statement, the establishment of the SSEB is part of Governor Namadi’s broader reforms aimed at strengthening the education system at the foundational level.
The governor believes that quality senior secondary education is vital for the state’s long-term development.

Dr. Yusha’u began his career in 2003 as a part-time lecturer at the Federal College of Education, Kano. A graduate of Bayero University, Kano, he holds a B.A. in Islamic Studies, an M.Ed. from ABU Zaria, and a Ph.D. in Education (Islamic Studies). He has taught at various levels, including as a classroom teacher in Kano State and a university lecturer.

In addition to Dr. Yusha’u, the governor approved the appointment of Malam Abdullahi Hudu as Permanent Member I, Kamilu Ibrahim as Permanent Member II, and Abdullahi Yunusa as Permanent Member III. Safiya Lami Muhammad will serve as Board Secretary.

SSG Ibrahim emphasized that the appointments take immediate effect and were made on the basis of merit, competence, and integrity. He urged the newly appointed officials to focus on innovation, effective policy execution, and improved service delivery in the education sector.

With this new board, expectations are high that Jigawa’s senior secondary schools will benefit from structured oversight and strategic development under seasoned leadership.
