The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has urged the Kano State Government to urgently investigate and bring to justice the perpetrators behind the gruesome murder of CSP Muhammad Ali, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Rano Division in Kano State.
The late officer, a native of Nasarawa State, was reportedly attacked by a group of youths and later died in hospital due to the injuries he sustained.
During its plenary sitting in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, the Assembly condemned the killing in strong terms, describing it as barbaric, inhuman, and unjustifiable.
Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau, made the call after the lawmaker representing Lafia Central Constituency, Hon. Solomon Yakubu Akwashiki, raised the matter under Matters of Public Importance.
Speaker Jatau, who disclosed that the slain DPO was his classmate at the College of Education Akwanga, expressed personal grief over the incident.
“First, I want to condole with the Government of Nasarawa State and the entire Eggon nation over this painful loss. I am more bereaved than anyone else—CSP Ali was my classmate. Look at how he was killed. This is inhuman and devilish,” he said.
He urged Governor Abdullahi Sule to engage the Inspector General of Police and the Kano State Government to ensure a full-scale investigation into the matter and bring the culprits to justice.
Earlier, Hon. Akwashiki lamented the continued killing of police officers in Nigeria, noting that CSP Ali’s murder follows a disturbing trend.
“Mr Speaker, the killing of CSP Muhammad Ali is heartbreaking. When you watch the video of the incident, you can’t help but shed tears. This is similar to what happened to DPO Bako Angbashim in Rivers State last year—both of them were Eggon sons,” he said.
He called on the House to rally behind the motion to demand justice from the relevant authorities.
Other lawmakers, including Hon. Daniel Ogazi and Barr. Esson Mairiga, threw their weight behind the motion and emphasized the need to protect security personnel across the country from mob attacks.
They extended their condolences to the family of the deceased, the Government of Nasarawa State, and the Eggon ethnic group.
“Enough is enough. Those who risk their lives to secure others deserve better protection. We call for decisive action to end this trend,” they stressed.
The House resolved to formally communicate its position to the Kano State Government and the Inspector General of Police.
