Monday OkpebeloThe Edo State Government has launched a comprehensive profiling exercise for property owners in the New City Development Area—formerly known as Coral City—as part of renewed efforts to settle lingering land disputes and streamline land ownership in the area.
In a statement released signed by Dr. Abdulwasiu Oyakhire, Secretary to the Edo State Committee on Land Dispute Resolution, all property owners in Lot-A and Lot-B of the development zone have been invited to present their ownership documents for verification.
The exercise is set to begin on Tuesday, June 3, and will run until Friday, June 13, 2025. It will take place on-site across both lots and will be carried out by relevant government agencies.

The statement emphasized that survey plans will be the primary means of verifying ownership. However, for property owners without formal surveys, accurate property coordinates will be accepted. Government-assigned surveyors will be available at both sites to assist.
This verification process follows a recent peace-building meeting chaired by Governor Monday Okpebholo with leaders from the Oke-Oroma, Obagie, and Amagba communities. At the meeting, the governor urged stakeholders to submit their land documents to enable proper profiling, authentication, and regularization.
“Our goal is to foster peace and order in the area while ensuring that property rights are clearly documented and protected,” Governor Okpebholo said, adding that the initiative is a crucial step toward issuing Certificates of Occupancy (C-of-O) to rightful owners.
He stressed the importance of peaceful coexistence among communities as a foundation for sustainable development in the New City, which is expected to become a major urban hub in Edo State.
The government is calling on all affected individuals to cooperate fully with the profiling team to ensure a smooth and transparent process.
Further profiling phases will be announced for other sections of the New City Development in due course.
