The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has strongly denied media reports claiming that Senator Ugochukwu Uba and Dr. Sadiq Abubakar Gombe were appointed to its National Working Committee (NWC), describing the claims as baseless fabrications aimed at stirring confusion within the party.
In a strong statement released by Chief Arinze Ekelem, National Vice Chairman (South East), the party denounced the report as a fabrication.
“There was no such appointment. Senator Uba is not a registered member of our party and cannot be appointed to any position, let alone a sensitive one like National Deputy Chairman (South),” the statement read.
“The falsehood circulating in the media is not only misleading but malicious. It is a deliberate attempt to undermine the unity and integrity of our party ahead of the 2027 general elections.”
Backing this stance, the Gombe State Chapter of the SDP also dismissed the alleged appointment of Dr. Sadiq Abubakar Gombe as Deputy National Chairman (North), describing it as “a politically motivated impersonation attempt.”
In a statement signed by Acting State Chairman, Comrade Adamu Abubakar Modibbo, the chapter stated: “Our records show that Dr. Gombe is not a card-carrying member of the SDP at the ward, local, or national level. The so-called appointment is baseless and offensive to our internal democratic structures.”
The party further stated that no such appointments were discussed or ratified during its NWC meeting held on May 15, 2025. It warned the public to disregard any claims, correspondence, or representations made by or on behalf of the duo.
SDP National Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, expressed alarm over the false reports, vowing to unmask those behind the scheme. “This was a calculated attempt to distract the party and derail our momentum as we prepare for 2027. It will fail,” he said.
Gabam reaffirmed the party’s commitment to due process, internal democracy, and its mission to provide a credible political alternative for Nigerians. “We are rising. We are ready. And we will not be hijacked,” he declared.
The South East SDP zone, in a show of solidarity, reaffirmed its unshakable support for Gabam’s leadership and passed a vote of confidence in the national leadership.
“Under Gabam, the SDP has reclaimed its voice and direction. We will continue to support his vision to rebuild and reposition the party for victory,” the statement concluded.
