The Leader of the Senate, Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, has felicitated with elder statesman and Afenifere Worldwide Leader, Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, on his 99th birthday, describing him as a true Omoluabi and an unyielding defender of Yoruba interest.
In a statement released on Sunday by his Directorate of Media and Public Affairs, Senator Bamidele expressed deep gratitude to God for granting Pa Fasoranti longevity, a sound mind, and an enduring legacy of selfless service to the Yoruba people and the Nigerian nation.
Born on 11th May 1926 in Uso, Ondo State, Pa Fasoranti is widely regarded as a distinguished disciple of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, and a consistent advocate for Yoruba unity, justice, and good governance.
Senator Bamidele highlighted Pa Fasoranti’s remarkable contributions to education and public enlightenment, recalling his impactful years as Principal of Oyemekun Grammar School and Iju-Itaogbolu Grammar School in the 1960s and 1970s, as well as his founding of Akure High School and Omolere Nursery and Primary School.
“On behalf of all senators from Yoruba-speaking states, we celebrate the patriarch of Yorubaland—a true Omoluabi and embodiment of humility—Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, as he marks his remarkable attainment of 99 years on earth,” Bamidele said.
“Pa Fasoranti exemplifies the noble values of Omoluabi—honour, integrity, selflessness, and principled leadership. His service as Commissioner for Finance in the administration of Pa Adekunle Ajasin (1979–1980) remains a model of public accountability.”
The Senate Leader also praised Pa Fasoranti’s courage during Nigeria’s military era, recalling his role in the pro-democracy movement that resisted the dictatorship of General Sani Abacha and helped pave the way for the Fourth Republic in 1999.
Bamidele further noted that Fasoranti’s commitment to education aligns with the philosophy of the defunct Action Group and Unity Party of Nigeria, both of which placed premium emphasis on human capital development.
“Pa Fasoranti stands as an enduring inspiration to the progressive movement in the South-West and beyond. His legacy in education, governance, and moral leadership continues to illuminate the path for current and future generations,” Bamidele said.
“As he approaches the rare milestone of a centenary, we pray that the Almighty God will continue to preserve him in strength, good health, and unyielding spirit as a unifying symbol for all descendants of Oduduwa.”
