The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jigawa State has successfully elected new state executives in a peaceful congress held at the Aminu Kano Triangle in Dutse, the state capital.
The congress, supervised by a delegation from the PDP National Headquarters led by Barrister Isa Ahmad, saw the emergence of 39 executive members, all unopposed, to serve a four-year term. Over 9,400 delegates from 287 wards across the state’s 27 local government areas participated in the exercise.
Declaring the results, Barrister Ahmad described the process as peaceful, transparent, and in strict adherence to the party’s constitution. He commended party members and stakeholders for their discipline and unity.
Hon. Dr. Babandi Ibrahim Gumel was elected as the new state chairman. Others elected include Hon. Umar Danjani (Deputy Chairman), Muhammad Bahutu (Secretary), Saleh Yahaya KO (Vice Chairman, Northeast), Hon. Uba Bawan Allah (Northwest), Hon. Idris Danlawan (Central), and Hajiya Murja Garki (Women Leader).
In his acceptance speech, Hon. Babandi promised to build an inclusive and united PDP, positioning it as the party capable of addressing the nation’s deepening socioeconomic challenges.
Former Jigawa State governor and party leader, Alhaji Sule Lamido, praised the congress as a major step in revitalizing the PDP. He expressed hope that the party would emerge stronger and better prepared for the 2027 general elections.
