– he Department of State Services (DSS) has confirmed the arrest of five suspects linked to the kidnapping and brutal murder of one-year-old Sakina Mamuda in Kano State
The incident occurred in Duhun Bake village, Gwarzo Local Government Area, where the toddler was reportedly abducted by members of her own community—Zailani Rabiu, Hafizu Yusuf, Abubakar Abdulkareem, Umar Lawan, and Amadu Salisu. Despite demanding ransom from the family, the perpetrators allegedly killed the child and dumped her body in an abandoned well.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, reacting to the development, expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and commended the swift intervention by the DSS and other security agencies. “This senseless tragedy has shaken us to the core,” the Governor stated. “I commend the DSS for acting swiftly and decisively. We will continue to prioritise the safety of our people and ensure that those who threaten our peace are brought to justice.”
Speaking at a press briefing at the Government House, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice Haruna Dederi assured the public that the case would be prosecuted swiftly and transparently. He was joined by the Commissioner for Information and other senior government officials.
According to a statement by the Governor’s Spokesperson, Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa, the suspects are currently under investigation for criminal conspiracy, kidnapping, and homicide.
In response to the tragic event, Governor Yusuf reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening security in the state, promising enhanced support for intelligence operations, logistics, and inter-agency cooperation.
As news of the murder continues to spread, public calls for justice and tighter child protection measures are growing louder across the state.
