Former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has fired back at suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, petitioning the Inspector General of Police (IGP) over what he describes as “false and inciting” allegations made against him.
In a petition submitted through his lawyer, Mr. N.A. Abubakar, Bello urged the police to invite Akpoti-Uduaghan to present proof of her claims.
The former governor is demanding a full criminal investigation, and if her allegations are not substantiated, he wants her prosecuted for defamation, public incitement, and spreading false information capable of disrupting peace.
“The utterances were not only reckless but also amount to serious criminal offences under Nigerian law,” the petition reads.
In a separate legal correspondence, Bello’s team, led by Chief R.O. Balogun, SAN, issued a formal demand for retraction and public apology in two national newspapers. Failure to do so, they warned, would result in legal action.
This latest move escalates the ongoing tensions between the two political figures, with Akpoti-Uduaghan already facing mounting pressure following her suspension from the Senate.
Her recent accusations have sparked controversy, drawing mixed reactions from civil society and political observers.
With the matter now before the nation’s top police authority, all eyes are on the IGP’s next steps as both camps prepare for a potential courtroom showdown.
