In a political climate charged with ambition and noise, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State is playing a different game — and doing it on his own terms.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) heavyweight, during an interview on Politics Today on Channels Television, made a striking statement: he has what it takes to be Nigeria’s president. But unlike many, he’s not declaring war on 2027 just yet.
“I don’t have any doubt that I have the capacity to occupy the highest office in this land,” Makinde said. “But I’m not here to jump into something because it sounds exciting. My party must first be fixed. That’s the real work now.”

In a political era dominated by loud declarations and strategic leaks, Makinde is choosing precision over pressure. “Nobody will set an agenda for me,” he said. “I will set an agenda for myself.”
The governor’s remarks came a day after he flagged off EXPOYO 2025, the Oyo State International Trade Fair, a symbol of his focus on real development over political distractions.
“I’m focused on delivering for the people of Oyo State. No stunts, no noise — just results,” he added. “If I choose to run, I will do it with preparation, with purpose, and with something solid to offer. Until then, I stay grounded in service.”
Makinde’s message? He’s not in a hurry. He’s in control. And when, not if he makes his move, it won’t be for the applause. It’ll be for the country.
