Bayelsa Politics: APC Chieftain Eze Accuses Wike of Destabilization Plot, Urges Caution

A prominent figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC), Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has raised concerns over what he described as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike’s alleged interference in the political affairs of Bayelsa State.

Speaking from Port Harcourt over the weekend, Eze urged Wike to respect the political autonomy of the Ijaw people and warned against interpreting their calm disposition as a sign of weakness.

Eze, a former member of the APC Legacy Media Team, accused Wike of attempting to inject political unrest into Bayelsa’s landscape—drawing parallels to the recent political turbulence in Rivers State involving Governor Siminalayi Fubara and other state officials. He claimed Wike is seeking to replicate that scenario in Bayelsa under the guise of consolidating influence.

Praising Governor Douye Diri for his firm stance, Eze commended the Bayelsa leader for thwarting what he referred to as “anti-democratic efforts” to sow discord within the state’s chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“The people of Bayelsa do not entertain the politics of betrayal and chaos,” Eze stated, while cautioning against any attempts to drag the state into a political crisis that could escalate into violence.

He also challenged any moves to declare a state of emergency in Bayelsa, calling it a “false narrative” that would never gain traction among the people. In his view, such actions would not only be unwarranted but could further damage national unity, especially at a time when several other states are grappling with more severe security issues.

According to Eze, any insinuation that opposition to a recent political rally or the formation of Wike-aligned groups in Bayelsa constitutes an affront to President Bola Tinubu is misplaced.
He argued that such claims are merely tactics employed to gain presidential favor.

He concluded with a pointed reminder: Bayelsa is the heart of the Ijaw nation, and while its people are peace-loving, they will not stand by in the face of perceived political manipulation.
