In a historic celebration of resilience, excellence, and leadership, 65 remarkable Nigerian women were honored at the prestigious Arise Women Making Impact Awards, held at Eko Hotel, Lagos, on Monday.
The event, organized in commemoration of International Women’s Month, underscored the invaluable contributions of Nigerian women across diverse sectors.
Among the honorees was Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Barrister Hannatu Musa Musawa, who received her award from former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.
Special Adviser on media and publicity, Dr. Nneka Ikem Anibeze in Statement quoted Musawa to have in a powerful acceptance speech reflected on the dual strength of women—their sensitivity and courage—while emphasizing the importance of breaking gender barriers.
“It is a huge honour for me in a country like Nigeria, where so many women have shattered the glass ceiling, to be recognized in this way,” Musawa stated. “The greatest strength of a woman is her ability to be sensitive and emotional, yet courageous and strong. I hope that this recognition inspires young girls across Nigeria to know that they too can thrive and achieve greatness.”
Musawa, a distinguished lawyer, politician, and writer, described the award as a testament to the power of women and their unwavering commitment to nation-building. She further highlighted the role of representation in encouraging the next generation to dream bigger and aim higher.
The awards also celebrated the achievements of globally recognized Nigerian women, including Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization, for her immense contributions to global trade and Nigeria’s economic development. Others honored included H.E. Amina Mohammed, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, Obiageli Ezekwesili, Minister of Trade and Investment Jumoke Oduwole, Special Adviser to the President Hadiza Bala Usman, and Ojinika Okpe of Arise News.
The event was a resounding affirmation of the role women play in shaping Nigeria’s future, breaking boundaries, and inspiring generations to come. With each award, a powerful message was sent: Nigerian women are not just making an impact—they are redefining excellence and leadership on a national and global scale.
