Bravery in the Line of Duty: Correctional Service Mourns Fallen Officer in Kogi Jailbreak

The Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) has officially identified the officer who tragically lost his life while attempting to prevent a jailbreak at the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Koton-Karfe, Kogi State, on Monday, March 24, 2025.
The fallen officer, Senior Correctional Assistant (SCA) Shuaibu King David, has been hailed for his bravery and dedication.
In an official statement signed by Deputy Controller of Corrections, Umar Abubakar, the NCoS expressed profound sorrow over the loss, emphasizing the heroism of SCA King David in his efforts to safeguard the custodial facility.
“We regret to announce the tragic demise of Senior Correctional Assistant (SCA) Shuaibu King David, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty during the unfortunate escape incident at the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Koton-Karfe, Kogi State, on March 24, 2025,” the statement read.
The statement further detailed the officer’s final moments, highlighting his unwavering commitment to protecting the facility.
The Acting Controller-General of Corrections, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, speaking on behalf of the service, extended heartfelt condolences to the family, colleagues, and loved ones of the deceased officer, describing his actions as a symbol of selfless service and dedication to national security.
“The service and ultimate sacrifice of the deceased officer will forever be remembered and honored,” Nwakuche affirmed.
In response to the jailbreak, the NCoS has intensified efforts in collaboration with security agencies and local communities to recapture escaped inmates. The agency also reassured the public that stringent security measures were being put in place to prevent future incidents.
“We remain committed to ensuring the safety of our officers and the security of all custodial facilities nationwide,” the NCoS declared.
As the nation mourns this tragic loss, the service concluded its statement with a solemn tribute: “May the soul of SCA Shuaibu King David rest in peace. Amen.”
