Former Governor of Jigawa State has made a passionate appeal to former members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), urging them to return to the party and help rebuild Nigeria.
Speaking at a Ramadan Iftar gathering in his country home in Bamaina, Birnin Kudu Local Government, he described PDP as the true home of progressive politics in Nigeria.
“This is a time for reflection, for seeking God’s guidance,” he told the gathering. “But it is also a time to renew our bonds and reaffirm our commitment to our political family. PDP has always been home to many, and those who left should not feel ashamed to return.”
The former governor painted a bleak picture of Nigeria under the current administration, citing worsening economic hardship, insecurity, and lack of direction. He reminded attendees that many of today’s political leaders, including those in APC, rose to prominence under PDP’s governance.
“PDP built this country’s democratic foundation,” he declared. “Even those in APC today—Tinubu, Buhari—benefited from the stability we created. But those who left us in 2014 now see the reality. The question is simple: Is Nigeria better today than it was under PDP?”
He dismissed the Social Democratic Party (SDP) as an unrealistic alternative, calling it a “government creation” with no real foundation. He argued that political success requires more than emotion and revenge, urging former PDP members to return and help reposition the party for the future.

“Politics should not be driven by anger,” he warned. “Those who left PDP must understand that this is their home. There is no shame in coming back. What matters is Nigeria’s future.”
As Nigeria moves closer to another crucial election cycle, his message carries weight. Whether those who left will heed his call remains uncertain, but his speech has reignited discussions about PDP’s role in shaping the country’s political future.
