Gunmen have abducted a senior military officer, Navy Lt. Cynthia Akor, along with two others in the Mpape area of Abuja, sending shockwaves through the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The victims were seized from their residence on Friday night, with the assailants swiftly reaching out to their families the following day, demanding a staggering N100 million ransom for their release.
A source familiar with the incident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the development.
“Three individuals were taken, including a Defense Headquarters officer, Lt. Akor. The kidnappers have made contact and are insisting on N100 million before releasing them,” the source revealed.
Efforts to obtain an official response from the military have so far been met with silence. Neither the Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Markus Kangye, nor the Director of Defense Information, Brig. Gen. Tukur Gusau, responded to inquiries at the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, Josephine Adeh, stated that authorities were looking into the situation.
“I will confirm and get back to you shortly,” she said.
This latest incident has deepened fears over Abuja’s deteriorating security landscape, as kidnappings and violent attacks continue to escalate, leaving residents on edge and raising urgent questions about the safety of even high-ranking security personnel.
