The Kogi State chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has elected Hon. Ahmed Attah as its new Chairman following a keenly observed elective congress held at the party’s state secretariat in Lokoja on Wednesday.
Attah, a former zonal leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was elected alongside Alhaji Idris Sofada, who emerged as the State Secretary. The congress, attended by 3,890 delegates from all 21 local government areas of the state, was closely monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
A total of 12 state executive members were elected and sworn in immediately after the results were announced.
In his inaugural speech, Attah pledged to lead with fairness and transparency, ensuring that the party remains a strong force in Kogi State politics. He also lauded INEC’s presence at the congress, describing it as a testament to the SDP’s commitment to due process and peaceful democratic practices.
“I commend all stakeholders, especially INEC officials, for their dedication to credible elections. The success of this congress reinforces SDP’s reputation as a party that values order, integrity, and the rule of law,” Attah stated.
He further expressed confidence that the SDP is now well-positioned to challenge for the governorship seat in the 2028 elections, urging party members to remain united and focused.

Sofada – Secretary (Lokoja LGA),Emife Ronke Mercy– Women Leader (Kabba Bunu LGA), Zakaria Ahmed Buhari – Youth Leader (Ankpa LGA), and Barr. Dugbanya David – Legal Adviser (Bassa LGA)
Others are Adutu Ojomebyo David – Organizing Secretary (Ibaji LGA), Jethro Ilusegun Solomon – Welfare Secretary (Mopamoro LGA), Abu Abdulaziz – Auditor (Ogori-Magogo LGA), Mohammed Jimoh Ayira – Financial Secretary (Adavi LGA), Salami Lamidi – Treasurer (Ogori-Magogo LGA) and Ibrahim Momosani Hassan – Assistant Secretary (Ankpa LGA)
With this new leadership structure in place, the SDP is expected to strengthen its grassroots mobilization and strategize ahead of future elections.
