A staunch PDP stalwart in Kogi State, Hon. Shittu Idris Haruna, has challenged former Governor Yahaya Bello’s assertion that there will be “no vacancy” in Lugard House come 2027. Bello made this remark in a recently circulated social media video, recorded during an Iftar gathering at his residence, where he hosted some Kogi State legislators. During the event, Bello declared that until Governor Ahmed Ododo completes a second term, no one should expect a leadership change—implying that the governorship seat is not up for contest in 2027.
Hon. Shittu Idris Haruna strongly disagreed, stating that Bello is mistaken and should prepare for a political showdown in 2027. He affirmed that the PDP is poised to reclaim what he called its “stolen mandate.”
He reminded Bello that power is not permanent, emphasizing, “You can fool some people sometimes, but you can’t fool everybody all the time.” Haruna drew parallels to PDP’s loss in 2015 due to overconfidence and complacency, warning that the APC is now on the same path, as no one can play God in politics.
Furthermore, he criticized alleged attempts to infiltrate the PDP at both national and state levels to destabilize the party, stating that such efforts will ultimately fail.
Hon. Shittu also referenced Bello’s recent legal troubles, stating that they should have taught him a lesson—there is a limit to everything in life.
