The embattled Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa has indicated that he was never removed from office and has resumed his position.

Speaking to journalists on Thursday at the assembly complex, Obasa stated that he remains the Speaker, emphasizing that due process was not followed in his alleged impeachment.

This marks Obasa’s first appearance at the complex since lawmakers voted to remove him in January over allegations of misconduct and financial mismanagement.
His return coincided with the withdrawal of security details assigned to Mrs. Mojisola Meranda, who was elected Speaker following his removal.

Confirming the security withdrawal, Meranda’s media aide, Victor Ganzalo, stated that all personnel stationed at the assembly complex had also been removed.

Obasa, however, asserted that his own security detail had been reinstated and that he was taking charge again.

“I have resumed and remained the Speaker of the Assembly; I was never removed,” he declared. “Impeachment is a democratic process, but it must follow due procedure. If my removal had been fair, I would not have challenged it.”

When asked about reports of a lawsuit, he allegedly filed against his removal, Obasa denied any legal action.

He reassured lawmakers that his return was not driven by a desire for revenge but by a commitment to the progress of Lagos State.
