The Federal Government has reaffirmed its dedication to protecting education in Nigeria, with a strong emphasis on ensuring safe learning environments for students across the country.
This commitment was highlighted by the Honourable Minister of State for Finance, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, during a meeting with Michela Ranieri, a global consultant for the Safe Schools Implementation Network, in Abuja.

Dr. Uzoka-Anite to have emphasized that education is an investment, not an expenditure, underscoring the government’s resolve to safeguard the future of Nigerian children.
She revealed that the Safe Schools Initiative, launched in 2017, has gained global recognition for its innovative approach to protecting students and teachers from security threats.
One of the major achievements of Nigeria’s initiative is the establishment of the National Safe Schools Response Coordination Centre, the first of its kind worldwide. The Minister proudly stated that Nigeria now stands alongside Spain, Argentina, and Norway as a core planning country for the Safe Schools Declaration.
“In May, we will showcase our achievements at the Declaration’s 10th anniversary,” Dr. Uzoka-Anite announced, reinforcing Nigeria’s leadership in ensuring safe and accessible education for all.
The Minister assured that the government has consistently provided funding to sustain school safety efforts, with financial mechanisms in place to maintain progress.
She highlighted the role of security agencies in implementing safe school protocols and reiterated that education security remains a top priority as the nation works towards economic stability.
“As we continue to stabilize our economy, we remain committed to protecting our most valuable assets—our children and their education,” she stated.
Michela Ranieri, representing the Global Coalition to Protect Education from Attack (GCPEA), commended Nigeria’s progress, describing the country’s model as the first of its kind globally. She noted that Nigeria’s approach is yielding results and could serve as a blueprint for other nations facing similar challenges.
The Permanent Secretary, Special Duties, Mr. Raymond Omenka Omachi, assured that the Ministry of Finance would continue to support the full implementation of the Federal Government’s policies on education security.
With Nigeria’s continued prioritization of safe learning environments, the Safe Schools Initiative stands as a testament to the government’s dedication to ensuring that every child has access to education without fear or disruption.
