Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, has pledged to investigate the claims of the Commissioner of Health, Dr. Muhammad Abdullahi Kainuwa, and the Director General of the Jigawa State Empowerment/Employment Agency, Dr. Habib Kanya, following a mass protest by youths in Birninkudu Local Government Area.
The protest erupted during the governor’s visit to Birninkudu as part of the Gwamnati da Jama’a (Government and the People) citizens’ engagement program. The event, held at the Birninkudu Township Stadium, was attended by former governors Alhaji Ali Sa’ad and Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar (now Minister of Defense), as well as the deputy governor, state lawmakers, and other top officials.
Tensions flared when Dr. Kainuwa and Dr. Kanya presented reports on their ministries’ achievements in Birninkudu.
Hundreds of youths in the audience rejected their claims, shouting “Karya ne! Karya ne!” (It’s a lie!) and disrupting the speeches. The overwhelming disapproval forced both officials to cut their presentations. Dr. Kainuwa attempted to defend himself, insisting, “Ba karya bane” (It is not a lie), but the youth remained unconvinced.
While other commissioners, including those of Works and Transport, Higher Education, and Special Duties, were able to address the crowd without issue, Dr. Kanya also faced jeers and interruptions when he attempted to highlight his agency’s achievements.
Addressing the situation, Governor Namadi expressed concern over the allegations and promised to investigate the matter.
He emphasized that the Gwamnati da Jama’a program was designed to ensure accountability and transparency by allowing citizens to evaluate the government’s performance.
“We have heard the concerns of the people of Birninkudu, and I assure you that we will take action. This government is committed to transparency and accountability,” Governor Namadi said.
He reiterated his administration’s dedication to the Jigawa Citizens’ Online 12-Point Agenda and urged the youth to engage constructively while maintaining discipline and respect in their interactions with leaders.
The incident in Birninkudu highlighted demands for government officials to be truthful and accountable, making Governor Namadi’s promised probe a critical step in maintaining public trust.
