The people of Egume-Ome community in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State have called on Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo to extend his developmental initiatives to their area, emphasizing the urgent need for improved infrastructure and social amenities.
The appeal was made by Pa John K. Umoru, a community leader, during the annual Get-Together of the Lokoja branch of the Egume-Ome Descendants Union (EODU).
Umoru lamented the lack of significant government projects in Egume-Ome, despite its status as the headquarters of Okura District.
“Our community has not experienced major developmental projects from any administration in the state. We urgently need government intervention in areas such as township roads and other critical social amenities,” he said.
Umoru also lauded the outgoing Executive Council (EXCO) of the EODU for their dedication to the union’s progress and encouraged members of the community to remain committed to its development.
In his address, Comrade Noah Ocheni, the outgoing chairman of the Lokoja branch of EODU, expressed gratitude to members for their support during his tenure.
He also commended the Kogi State Community and Social Development Agency (KGCSDA) for its contributions, particularly the renovation of a health clinic at Efakwu and the rehabilitation of boreholes at Owala and Ogene-Odeto.
“These projects have brought some relief to our community, but there is still much to be done,” Ocheni noted.
The occasion also featured the election of a new Executive Council to steer the affairs of the Lokoja branch of EODU for the next two years.
Mr. Joel Ijaja emerged as the Chairman, while Mallam Muhammed Acheneje was elected Vice Chairman.
Other officers include Mr. Ademu Benard Iyeh as Secretary General and Comrade Musa Abuh Musa CNA as Treasurer.
In his acceptance speech, Chairman-elect Joel Ijaja called for unity and cooperation among members, pledging to prioritize the community’s welfare and development.
“I am committed to rendering selfless service to our people. Together, we can achieve significant progress for Egume-Ome,” Ijaja said.
The event underscored the community’s collective resolve to advocate for greater attention from the government and to work together for the socio-economic growth of Egume-Ome.
