Akwa Ibom Police Command: A Week of Strategic Crime-Busting Achievements

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has recorded significant victories in its intensified fight against crime, with the rescue of vulnerable victims, the arrest of offenders, and the disruption of criminal networks.
Speaking at a press briefing on Monday at the Command Headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia, Uyo, DSP Timfon John, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), detailed the Command’s notable achievements over the past week.
According to him, the Command successfully thwarted two child trafficking operations, rescuing four children aged between 2 and 12 years.

He indicated that two suspects, Roseline Dennis and Sunday Udo Ekong, were apprehended while attempting to transport two children to Abia State for illegal sale.

“Another group of suspects, led by Okwondu Nkpurunna, was caught trafficking two children. All rescued children have been reunited with their families, and the suspects will face prosecution.
“In Abak LGA, a known serial offender, Daniel Effiong Umoh, was detained for assaulting a teenage girl.
“In Ibiono Ibom, Pastor Louis Akpojotor Mevoweoyo was arrested for sexually abusing his daughter since she was 12. The Police promised swift and full prosecution of both cases.”
The PPRO said the Command dared a suspected cult group tied to the Italian Mafia Secret Cult Confraternity in Uyo LGA by dismantling them saying that three suspects were arrested, and weapons, including a locally made pistol and jackknife, were recovered.
He said efforts are ongoing to capture the group’s armourer and other members.
In Ibiono Ibom LGA, operatives responded promptly to a robbery incident, arresting Holy Evans Andrew and recovering a pistol along with cartridges.

“In Mkpat Enin LGA, four suspects were apprehended for vandalizing a transformer. While some accomplices remain at large, efforts to recover stolen components are underway.

^In a surprising case, a physically challenged man, Umoh Ubong Udoh, was arrested in Uyo for distributing suspected Indian hemp to criminals.
“This arrest highlights the Command’s commitment to tackling drug-related crimes, irrespective of the suspect’s circumstances.”

DSP Timfon John attributed the week’s successes to community cooperation and actionable intelligence.
“We urge residents to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities, and trust the Police to act swiftly. With the leadership of CP Baba Mohammed Azare, we are building a safer Akwa Ibom State,” he said.

The Police spokesperson reiterated the commans zero tolerance for mob justice and called for sustained public support in reporting crime. “The Command remains committed to protecting lives, property, and ensuring law and order across the state.”

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command have arrested two individuals in Ibeno and Eket for unlawful possession of firearms, as part of ongoing efforts to curb crime and enhance public safety.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, in a statement indicated that the arrests took place during separate operations on February 21 and 22, 2025.
According to the statement, a law-abiding citizen alerted the police that a man was in possession of a firearm.
“The suspect, identified as Nehemiah Sunday Udo, 65, of Ekpene Obo Village in Esit Eket LGA, was intercepted along Ibeno Beach Road and later handed over to the police for further investigation.

The Statement indicated that , one double-barrel long gun, one cartridge, one torchlight and one traveler’s bag containing clothes were recovered from the suspect

“The suspect claimed to be a member of the Professional Hunters Association of Nigeria, but police have launched further investigations to verify his claims and purpose in the area.

In another operation, the statement said, police operatives conducting a routine stop-and-search along Ikot Udoma Road, Eket, arrested Emmanuel Sylvanus Ekan in possession of a locally made pistol.

“The suspect was taken into custody for further investigation to determine the source of the weapon and any potential criminal affiliations.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling crime and ensuring residents remain safe. He called on the public to report suspicious activities and assured that all necessary steps would be taken to prevent the proliferation of illegal firearms.

The Akwa Ibom Police Command urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies to enhance law enforcement efforts in the state.

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has successfully rescued a kidnapped victim and recovered a stolen Lexus RX 350 SUV in Ikot Ekpene, reaffirming its commitment to combating crime and ensuring public safety.

Akwa Ibom State Command, DSP Timfon John, in a statement on Saturday said,
“Following a report that a man (name withheld) was kidnapped along Okop Eto Road and taken to an unknown destination by the kidnappers.
“Operatives of the command based on credible intelligence immediately swung into action, engaged the kidnappers in a gun duel.
“The hoodlums, overwhelmed by superior firepower fled with severe gunshot injuries, leaving the victim unharmed.
“The victim was rescued unhurt, his vehicle recovered and has since been reunited with his family.
Explaining further, the statement declared that One Lexus RX 350 SUV, ash in color was recovered.

Commending the operation, Commissioner of Police Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi, praised the officers’ bravery and professionalism, emphasizing that criminal activities will not be tolerated in the state.

According to him, this decisive action sends a strong warning to criminals while reassuring residents of the police’s proactive approach to law enforcement.
He urged public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to help curb crime effectively.

Four Charged for Blocking Public Highway After Truck Accident in Akwa Ibom

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has charged four individuals to court for obstructing a public highway, following an incident on Monday, February 10, 2025.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday, the Command reiterated its stance against lawlessness and warned that it will not tolerate acts of obstruction on public roads.

The incident occurred around 9:00 PM when a truck driver, attached to Sterling Global Construction Company, recklessly hit a tricycle carrying passengers, causing injuries and damage.
In an attempt to stop the truck driver from fleeing, four other truck drivers mobilized and blocked the highway, bringing vehicular movement to a standstill.

Despite police efforts to de-escalate the situation, the truck drivers allegedly refused to cooperate, leading to their arrest and subsequent arraignment. The four trucks were impounded as part of the investigation.

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command, under CP Baba Mohammed Azare, has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order in the state. It urged the public to comply with the law and avoid actions that could disrupt public peace.
