Kogi Assembly okays nominees for ERC, FRC amid mourning

The Kogi State House of Assembly has endorsed nominees for top positions in the Electricity Regulatory Commission (ERC) and the Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC), charging them to deliver efficient service despite the Assembly’s somber mood following the death of its former Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Paul Enema.

The Chairman and Commissioner nominees were confirmed after their screening at a Committee of the Whole in a confirmatory hearing during plenary sitting on the floor of the House at the Assembly Complex in Lokoja.

The nominees include Engr Abdussalam Yusuf Ph.D, as commissioner market competition and Rates (MCR), Prof. Abdukarim Ibrahim, Commissioner Legal; Meliga Enema Micheal, Commissioner, Evaluation, Performance and Monitoring (EPM) and Alhaji Mohammed Mabo Kassim as the Commission’s Secretary.

Nominees for Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC) include, Mr Jimoh Muhammed Adinoyi, as Chairman (Central); Engr Ayowande Femi (West); Mr Yahaya Drisu, (East), Muhammed Musa (Central) and Ayodeji Emmanuel, secretary.

The nominees were given the privilege of taking “A Bow and Go” since the 8th Assembly in the state was in a mourning over the demise of its former Deputy Speaker and member representing Dekina-Okura state Constituency, late Rt Hon Paul Enema.

The Speaker, Rt Hon. Aliyu Umar Yusuf urged the nominees to direct their energy , expertise and resources to the development and improvement of electricity supply to the people of the state.

Speaker Yusuf charged them to put their duties and responsibilities of the Commission’s in ensuring effective and efficient service delivery in the state. (Ends)

Omala Rises: Landmark Unity Conference Unveils Bold Vision for Development

Omala Local Government Area made history as its National Unity and Development Round Table Conference ended in grandeur, signaling a new era of collaboration, progress, and inclusivity.
Held at Valid Hotel, Abejukolo, the event brought together a powerhouse of political leaders, intellectuals, and traditional rulers to chart a sustainable development path for the region.

The conference, spearheaded by the Executive Chairman of Omala LGA, Hon. Gift Eleojo Haruna, featured groundbreaking discussions, the establishment of a socio-cultural umbrella body, and the launch of the Omala Unity House Project, a monumental symbol of unity and hope for the future.

Gift Eleojo Haruna in a statement indicated that over 100 distinguished personalities graced the event, including former Senators, senior advocates, academics, and captains of industry.
Notable attendees included AIG (Rtd) Abdulsalam Iyaji, Prof. Ben Ahmodu, Reuben Atabo SAN, and Dr. Ibrahim Abdul. Traditional rulers, such as HRH Chief Boniface Musa and HRH Chief David Akpa, added cultural significance to the occasion.
The conference adopted a seven-point communiqué, outlining strategic decisions to propel Omala LGA toward unity and growth to include Inclusive Governance Declaring equal rights for all indigenes, regardless of zone.
It also adopted Zonal Administrative Structure, dividing the LGA into four zones for balanced representation.
It established the Omala Commonwealth Development Association to guide community decisions.
It fixed December 27th as Omala Unity Day to commemorate progress.
It innaugurated a dedicated team to create strategies for growth and infrastructure.
It also launched a Unity House project as a symbol of peace and collective strength.
Above all it instituted an award to honor outstanding contributions to Omala’s growth.
Hon. Haruna expressed confidence that the resolutions would inspire lasting reforms, emphasizing that the Omala Unity House Project will stand as a beacon of hope and resilience.

“This conference marked the beginning of a united front for sustainable development. The time for action is now, and Omala is ready to lead by example,” Hon. Haruna said.
Sen. Abdulsalam Iyaji praised the initiative, urging stakeholders to stay committed to implementing the resolutions. “Unity is the foundation of progress, and Omala has shown the nation what is possible when people work together.”
As the conference closed, the mood was one of optimism.
With blueprints in place, Omala LGA appears set to harness its resources and talents for transformative growth.
The Omala Unity Day Celebration promised to become an annual rallying point for progress and cultural pride.

Shehu Sani, Idah LGA Chairman Unite to Chart New Course for Development
