Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has announced a firm timeline for the completion of the long-abandoned Ebomisi Secondary School in Ugbogiobo, Ovia Northeast Local Government Area.
The governor, who visited the school on Monday as part of his ongoing commitment to fulfill campaign promises, expressed determination to restore the educational facility and bring hope to the community.
Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Fred Itua in a statement on Monday indicated that the school, which had been left in disrepair under the administration of former Governor Godwin Obaseki, has become a symbol of neglect, particularly after the 2024 Edo State governorship election.
Okpebholo, who won the election, acknowledged the community’s frustrations, pointing out that the school’s poor state had been widely discussed on social media, yet little was done to address the issue during Obaseki’s tenure.
Governor Okpebholo, during his visit, emphasized that his administration would not tolerate such neglect. He reaffirmed his commitment to rebuilding the school and promised that students would return to a fully restored facility within two months.
“We are coming here today, as promised during the campaign, to bring hope and restore the school,” Okpebholo said. “It is unacceptable that this school has been left in ruins for so long. In two months, the transformation will be evident, and the students will have a conducive environment for learning once again.”
The Governor went on to highlight the practical approach his administration would take to governance, emphasizing that the project would serve as an example of the “real Edobest” model, which focuses on tangible improvements in education, security, and infrastructure. Okpebholo assured the community that the restoration of the school was only the beginning of broader initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life in Edo State.
“We will not just talk about Edobest, we are going to show what it really means,” he said. “This is just the first step, and in the coming months, you will see the practical impact of our governance style.”
In addition to the school renovation, the Governor reiterated his plans to improve security, provide potable water, and ensure quality education throughout the state, promising a hands-on, results-oriented approach that would directly benefit the people of Edo State.
