Court Orders Omobayo to Appear on November 25 Over Impersonation Charges
By Ben Ogbemudia, Abuja
Federal High Court Judge, Justice James Omotosho, has ordered Engr. Marvelous Omobayo to appear in court on November 25 to answer to charges of alleged impersonation. Omobayo’s absence at Monday’s proceedings prompted the judge’s directive, as he made clear that non-compliance with the court’s orders would not be tolerated.
The case, Suit No: FHC/ABJ/CS/478/2024, filed by Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, lists Omobayo as the primary respondent, with the Attorney General of Edo State, Chief Judge of Edo State, and the Edo State House of Assembly as co-defendants.
Previously, on October 23, Shaibu filed a motion requesting leave to serve contempt proceedings against the second defendant through substituted means, specifically by delivering documents to the Edo State Liaison Office in Abuja. Justice Omotosho granted this request and directed that notifications be sent through Edo House, Abuja as well.
Emphasizing the criminal nature of the charges, Justice Omotosho expressed a commitment to maintaining judicial integrity and warned that the court’s authority would be upheld, regardless of administrative transitions. All parties have been notified to appear for the next hearing on November 25, with the judge underscoring the requirement for Omobayo’s personal attendance.

Monday Okpebholo inaugurated as Edo State Governor, ending Obaseki’s eight-year tenure
His Excellency Monday Okpebholo has been sworn in as the new governor of Edo State, taking over from outgoing governor Godwin Obaseki after his eight years in office.
The inauguration was held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City on Tuesday, where Okpebholo and his deputy, Dennis Idahosa, took their oaths of office.
The ceremony, which saw dignitaries such as Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo and former governor Adams Oshiomhole in attendance, marked a return of Edo State’s governorship to the APC, following a closely fought election.
Okpebholo emerged victorious with 291,667 votes, defeating PDP’s Asue Ighodalo, who secured 247,274 votes, and Labour Party’s Olumide Akpata, who placed third.
Political analysts attributed Okpebholo’s win to the fractured relationship between Obaseki’s administration and former allies, including Obaseki’s former deputy Philip Shuaibu and influential figures like Oshiomhole.
Despite Obaseki’s backing, the PDP lost its hold on Edo State, with many viewing APC’s return as a reflection of Oshiomhole’s continued influence.
However, the PDP has challenged the election outcome, arguing that the results do not reflect the will of Edo citizens. The party has vowed to contest Okpebholo’s win in court.
