AEDC Kogi Region cries out over alleged energy thefts

ABUJA Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), Kogi Regional Office has cried out over alleged high rate of energy thefts by customers in the region saying the menace has plagued the power sector in the region for long.

Mr Olaseni Agunpopo, Chief Business Officer for the region, disclosed this while speaking with some newsmen from the stable of Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on Saturday in Lokoja.

Agunpopo alleged that some individuals and businesses illegally tap into the energy source while some bypass the meters to avoid paying for the energy they consume.

The CBO explained that energy theft is a serious issue that affects not only AEDC’s revenue but also the quality of service delivery to its customers as it equally undermine the safety of the people.

He said that the company had taken a strong stance against the menace and would soon embark on night raids in the region to identify and arrest illegal connectors.

Agunpopo held that the company, in a strategic move to boost consumers confidence has decided to ensure fairer billing for all categories of customers thereby reducing system losses.

“This move is part of the company’s strategic efforts to boost service delivery and ensure customer satisfaction. We appeal to all our valued customers to outstand and settle their bills promptly.

“This is crucial in maintaining uninterrupted service delivery and ensuring that we provide reliable electricity to every household and businesses in our service areas”.

He said the company is working hard to ensure that complaints about electricity distribution in the region is holistically addressed to customers’ satisfaction. (Ends)
