By Ahmed Rufa’I, Dutse
The federal government has delivered relief materials, including food, mats, blankets, children’s clothing, and charcoal stoves, to support the victims of the tragic petrol tanker explosion in Jigawa State.
The incident has claimed 182 lives, left many injured, and devastated communities.
Honorable Tijjani Aliyu Ahmad, representing the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), led the federal delegation to Jigawa State.
Presenting the items to the Jigawa government, Ahmad expressed the federal government’s deep sympathy, highlighting the NCFRMI’s mandate to assist affected communities through timely interventions.
“We are here to convey our heartfelt condolences on behalf of the federal government to the people of Jigawa,” Ahmad said. “The magnitude of this tragedy has shaken the region, and we are committed to supporting the recovery efforts.” He emphasized that this support aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to strengthen resilience and ensure stability for affected Nigerians.
The relief materials included 200 bags of 25kg rice, 100 bags of millet, 200 cartons of spaghetti, 200 bags of semovita, and 50 cartons of Maggi seasoning, along with mats, blankets, children’s clothing, cooking oil, charcoal stoves, and mattresses.
Governor Malam Umar Namadi has established an independent committee to ensure that the donations and over N1.5 billion in relief funds reach the 182 families who lost loved ones and the 80 individuals still receiving medical care.
“We are focused on fair and transparent distribution to all affected families,” Namadi said. The committee includes district heads, local leaders, and community representatives to oversee the relief distribution.
Governor Namadi expressed his gratitude to President Tinubu, Hon. Tijjani Aliyu Ahmad, and all organizations that have extended support.
“In this time of mourning, we appreciate the solidarity shown by both government and non-governmental bodies to help the affected families rebuild.”
