The Jigawa State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), led by Professor Haruna Musa, has announced plans to integrate the MuKaranta Hausa Literacy for Prosperity module into the primary school curriculum. This initiative aims to enhance literacy skills among Hausa pupils across the state.

During a recent assessment and dissemination event held at Tahir Guest Palace in Dutse, Professor Musa praised the program for significantly improving foundational reading and writing skills among pupils. He emphasized the importance of sustaining and expanding the initiative to more local governments, given its positive impact.

The chairman urged mothers and the Schools-Based Management Committee (SBMC) to take ownership of their schools, highlighting the government’s commitment to providing necessary educational resources. He also commended MuKaranta Literacy Resources Limited and Bono Energy for their contributions and encouraged other partners to support educational advancements in Jigawa State.

MuKaranta State Programme Coordinator, Mr. Bashir Yakubu shared impressive results, noting that pupil literacy skills in letter recognition soared from 2% to 92% within eighteen months. The program has reached 198 schools, benefiting over 22,500 students.

Discussions are ongoing with the Jigawa State Government and donor partners to explore the possibility of extending the program’s duration, ensuring continued support for literacy development in the region.
